About Me

…. Dr Anne Maddison

RELAX

I have recently retired, having spent my whole working life in education where I have experienced the whole spectrum of education from top to bottom, mainstream and special needs environments, building a vast repertoire of skills and strategies along my learning journey.

Always up for new initiatives, developing strategies and a zest for taking on challenges in the workplace I challenged myself as a Millennium resolution, to gain an Educational Doctoral in International Education, which I achieved in 2003. I was always busy in my work, long hours and hectic weekends but no ‘Me’ time. Friends and colleagues couldn’t see me retiring early as I loved my job. It was only 18 months early but once the decision was made, (another new year resolution) I had to figure out what life would be post work

I love to travel, experience new cultures, try new things and take lots of photos. Most of my early traveling was done on a shoestring, even with two children in tow. I am renowned for finding great travel deals and love to take up the offer of going somewhere new. Travel was one of my top priorities but not everyone else was free from the commitment of work.

I signed up early on ‘Meningitis Now’ trek to the Patagonian Andes, a huge challenge both in raising money but also in getting fit. Although, I started out a PE teacher I had become very unfit and increased my waist line considerably since moving into educational management. The trek coincided with my 60th Birthday so I was no spring chicken and hence my first big challenge post work was created.

In the last two years, alongside getting fitter and raising money I have decided to try lots of new activities, workshops and classes. I have gone back to being the novice, taking on a vast array of new challenges and skills. It is frustrating being the beginner but now in Life after Work, I am learning again, this time in the area of arts and design, social media, horticulture, Yoga and wait for it…….Tango!!

ENJOY

Why Red Image – well that’s a very simple reason. The domain name, having previously been used for a family project, was now dormant …. so I nabbed it for myself. Now I hope to show you great images of my own ‘Red Letter Days’.
